Diversify Your Business with Online Auctions!
As you know, Audrey and I are BIG FANS of having multiple streams of income running into our Home Based Business. And one of those streams is from our pals over at eBay, the largest online auction site in the Universe. Ebay is also one of the largest creators of self-employed people in the world. At last count, ebay has been responsible for creating over 40,000 full-time self employed folks since it's inception.
But, as with any Online Business engagement, there is a Right way to Profit from Online Auctions, and a Wrong way. But before there is any money to be made, you need to understand the basics. We asked Karol Gajda of Free Auction Profits to write us a 9 Step "Getting Started" newsletter and he has delivered in fine style.
Enjoy!
How To Get Your eBay Business Off To A Rocking Start In Just 9Easy Steps! By Karol Gajda
Starting an eBay business is probably one of the easiest ways you can go online and start generating some income immediately. You can literally start producing a small income within 24 hours of reading this article. ?
So with that, let's get on with the show...
Step 1: This is the simplest step of all! Go to http://www.ebay.com and register for an account. Just click on the register link at the top of the home page. The registration process is very straightforward. After you register your eBay ID, you're then going to have to register for a Seller's Account. To do that, visit http://www.ebay.com, click on the Sell button at the top of the homepage, and then click on "Create a seller's account."
They will ask you for your credit card and bank account information. Don't worry, you won't be charged a penny when you do this. eBay uses this information for two reasons. First, to verify your identity. Second, to charge you selling fees once you actually start selling.
Step 2: Before you begin selling on eBay you've got to buy something. Why? So you learn the process and see what your future customers will be going through. So, go to eBay.com and do a search on some things you'd like to buy. It can be anything, large or small. Just making one tiny purchase will teach you so much about the whole eBay selling process.
Step 3: Now you've got to find something, just one item, to sell. This is EASY! Just look around your home and find something you no longer need or use: a CD, a book (non-fiction is best), a toy, a kitchen appliance, a set of baseball cards, a CD player, a VCR, a tea kettle, a movie...anything! Yes, you can honestly sell just about anything on eBay. My advice would be to pick a CD or movie.
Step 4: Take a picture of your item. If you must, you can also scan it. Pictures are a must when selling on eBay. They're worth 1,000 words, right? eBay will allow you to host one picture per auction for free so you might as well take advantage of that when you're just starting out.
Step 5: Get ready to list your item on eBay! Go to eBay.com and click on the Sell button. Login with the eBay ID and password you got in Step 1 and follow the step by step instructions on your screen. I recommend listing the auction as a 7 day auction. You'll have the option of 3, 5, 7, or 10 days. 10 days costs 10 cents more and you won't need it for our purposes.
Step 6: Write a keyword rich, descriptive title. For example, if you're selling a movie don't just put the movie's name. Put whether it's a VHS or DVD and put one of the main actors/actresses in the title if you can. The more keywords you have in your title the more visitors you'll have to your auction.
Step 7: Write a complete description of your item. If there's something wrong with it then please explain exactly what's wrong. Don't try to pass items off as perfect when they're really not or you'll start getting negative feedback from your buyers. Negative feedback can kill your eBay business. In your description, remember to include what payment methods you will be taking. I accept money orders, checks, cash, and Paypal. I highly recommend signing up for a free Paypal account at http://www.paypal.com as a large majority of eBay users prefer using Paypal.
Step 8: Once your auction ends you'll get an e-mail from eBay with the buyer's eBay ID and e-mail address. E-mail them right away. Include your auction's item # and title in the e-mail and remind them what payment methods you accept. Also, don't forget to tell them what their total cost, including shipping, is. If you don't know what to charge for shipping you should go to the Post Office and have them weigh your item and give you the costs for shipping. These won't be exact because it depends on where you're sending your item, but you'll at least have an idea.
Step 9: Once you get paid jump for joy!!! And remember to promptly ship your item to the buyer.
Upon completing these 9 steps you'll have put yourself in position to start selling more and more items on eBay. You can either repeat these steps with more items around your home, or you can start searching for alternate product sources such as garage sales, estate sales, and thrift stores
My specialty is finding free items to sell on eBay and I've helped countless others do the same thing with my eBook Free Auction Profitss. What better way to make a Profit than by selling free items? Check out Free Auction Profits and find out how!

I just found out from Michael Campbell that Nothing But Net will be pulled from the shelves on Thursday at Midnight! If you haven't heard of Michael or know of his most excellent Search Engine Strategies, you need to check our Nothing But Net and see how it fits into your e-commerce Search Engine Optimization Strategy.
Lastly, to date, I've received over 3,000 responses to last weeks question about creating an electronic Rolodex of resources that we use to run our Home Based Business, A Squared Artifacts. That's the response that I anticipated, so the creation of the Rolodex has begun.
From the looks of things, it's going to be HUGE! So, Audrey and I are off to work on it. As soon as it's available, we'll send out a special newsletter directing you to it's download. Just so you know, Nothing But Net will NOT be included, simply because it will not be available. Please don't wait until it's gone, check out Nothing But Net before it's too late.
Take Care!
P.S. Chris Malta has done it! Sunday at 11 PM EST, Chris launched the New and Improved Drop Ship Source Directory! Check it out! | |
